It was the first ever Jersey Premier Futsal League hosting 30 teams over 6 competitive weeks in a fun festival of futsal. The league was run in association with Jersey Premier Soccer and the United States Futsal Federation (USFF) and it is this level of professionalism and quality that will see the league grow and grow.
The players on show at the Atlantic Christian School location took to the futsal culture with an emphasis on skills, attacking play and lots of goals. The small field and heavier ball lead to more skills and lots of close range shooting opportunities, but don’t count out the goalkeeping as there were some spectacular saves on show from the players between the sticks.
Over the league season of 86 games across 5 age groups 1,024 goals were scored in the high-paced, high-intensity games just short of averaging 12 goals per game. We saw a lot of close and exciting games with some coming down to the buzzer beater shots on goal. The U17 Boys came away with a goals per game average ratio of 21 goals as well as the highest score line we saw Rangers 13 – 19 Mustangs.

League Director Terry Gibbs looked back over the first ever Jersey Premier Futsal League “I firstly want to thank all of the teams who participated in our inaugural futsal league. We saw it as a huge success with 30 teams playing every week looking to improve their skills. We saw big improvements in some teams as they got to grips with the rules and how to play the game. It was great to see how happy all the kids were playing futsal and this will spur us on to make 2014 even bigger and better”.
Everyone involved agrees that it was a great league to be a part of and a welcome addition to the Winter soccer schedule. We look forward to seeing an expanded and better Jersey Premier Futsal League in 2014.
